THADS (Turkey Ham Apple Dill Swiss) Sandwich
October 14, 2015
My farmer’s market had apples on the cheap this weekend so I went bonkers and bought a hefty amount (it’s fall – I’m allowed). So, lately I’ve been having apples in, with, and on everything – in my morning smoothie, with peanut butter as a snack, and now, on my sandwiches. Call me crazy genius, but this addition of tart, sweet, and crunch makes an otherwise regular sandwich something to talk about!
To healthify this sandwich, I made a garlic dill spread with Greek yogurt as a base, instead of mayo. I also swapped out regular white bread for onion rye bread, but you could do a hearty multigrain bread if you’re going for maximum fiber.
Note: The recipe below makes more spread than you need for one sandwich, but you can put the rest in a container and store it in the fridge for a few days. Use the remaining for other sandwiches or as a dip for veggies.
Ingredients:
Garlic Dill Spread:
1-5.3 oz container plain, low-fat Greek yogurt
1 Tbsp dried dill
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
Sandwich:
1 Tbsp garlic dill spread
2 slices onion rye bread
2-3 slices deli ham
2-3 slices deli turkey breast
1/2 small apple, sliced
1 slice Swiss cheese
Directions:
1. In a small bowl, combine Greek yogurt, dill, garlic powder, and salt. Mix well.
2. Spread both slices of bread with yogurt spread. Layer the ham, turkey, and apple slices on one slice of bread. Top with cheese and remaining slice of bread.
